Excessive RAM usage on large, tiled maps

Description When flying around on large mosaic maps, L3DTVi2 will eventually eat-up all the RAM.
Root cause I haven't looked into it yet, but I suspect L3DTVi2 does not unload its tile cache properly.
First observed 2nd of April, 2006 (probably happened from first release, though).
Bug status Still active. No ETA on a fix just yet.
Workaround None.
