Progress report for L3DT 2.3

Hello all,

The re-building of mosaic-maps is coming along nicely. The bug-hunt continues, with a few fiddley faults to be found and fixed in the water-flooding routines, plus the odd user-interface tweak. I will continue to maintain that the release-date for L3DT 2.3 lies sometime in early- to mid-March. You are under no obligation to believe me, however.

Cheers, Aaron.

Later that day...

Wow, the new calculation progress dialog box - as shown in the last post - has proven its worth already. Some fairly major inefficiencies in the water-table flooding and texture mapping routines have been found and fixed, and it's all thanks to that live-update display. Hip-hip-hooray for eye candy!

Progress...

The 'calculation progress' dialog box now includes a preview window for some calculations (see below). Did anybody say eye candy?

As far as the mosaic re-implementation goes, I'm still caught up with a mosaic-flooding bug (wicked deja vu with release 2.1). As for release dates, my notoriously unreliable best-guess is early- to mid-March.

Anyhoo, I'm going to go missing for a week on account of my appearance at the 8th biennial symposium of the Australian Microbeam Analysis Society. I'll be talking about my baby, the CSIRO TelePresence system (I wonder who did the web design?).

Progress report for L3DT 2.3

The re-introduction of gigapixel mosaic maps is proceeding well. I've fixed mosaic support for:

  • Heightfields.
  • Attributes maps.
  • Normal maps.
  • Light maps.
  • Texture maps.

I still have to fix mosaic support for:

  • Water mapping.
  • Some file formats.
  • Import / export options.
  • Some GUI options.

I have no idea how long it will take to complete this work.

In other news, I found a bug that caused premature termination of the volcano algorithm. On the up-side, it has been reported that the previous update did indeed fix the instability observed on Win2k systems.
