News for December 2006

December 6

Assorted happenings

I'm pleased to be able to say that last month's changes to the map renderer (see here) have gone off without a hitch…almost. There is some buggy behaviour from the lesser-used of the two modes in the image drape feature, which shows a mostly black image when the map being viewed is larger than 2048×2048, an the image drape is larger still. Unfortunately, the image drape code is insane, so I'm still trying to nut this one out. It should be fixed in time for the next release.

Speaking of the next release, it's going to be v2.5, and not v2.4c as previously advertised. The thinking is that the next release - with changes to the view rendering and user interface, the massive extension of the plugin API, and all the new plugins (including Atlas!) - is sufficiently different from v2.4 to warrant a new number. At this rate, sometime next decade I'll roll over to v3.0!

Anyway, there's only about two things left to do:

  1. More general debugging, and;
  2. Finalise the Atlas export (this requires a few more changes in L3DT.)

I expect v2.5 will be ready in December, or January at the latest.

Best regards,
Aaron.
