Plugin for importing Mars terrain

Postby Aaron » Wed Nov 25, 2009 9:57 pm

Hi Everyone,

I've added a plugin for importing Mars terrain from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) mission. To download the plugin, please see the L3DTio_MOLA page. A user guide is also included. Screenshots follow.

It seems to function ok on meg016 and higher but when trying with meg004 I get the following error in the log:

CMapWrap::InitMosaic error
- invalid map size

L3DTio_MOLA::ImportMola error:
- cannot initialise heightfield mosaic

CZeoFunc::CallFunction error:
- The function 'ExtImportMolaUI' in the plugin 'L3DTio_MOLA' returned an error.

I'm using the megt90n000cb img and lbl files downloaded from here:
http://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/geo/mg ... 0x/meg004/

I am using the latest L3DT 2.8 standard build from the web site, dated 15 November 2009.

Hi KrisWood,

I apologise for this inconvenience. I had not properly tested the MOLA plugin with the Standard edition of L3DT. The current version of the plugin automatically splits the heightfield into a mosaic of map tiles. This is fine for the Professional edition, but not OK for the Standard edition, in which mosaic heightfields are not supported. I'll post an update to the plugin in the next day or so.

Best regards,
Aaron.

No need to apologize, your program is top notch even with the occasional (rare) bug here and there :) I look forward to the update!

Hi KrisWood,

I've updated the download package on the MOLA plugin page to include support for L3DT Standard Edition. It should be OK to copy this plugin over the old one, without any further installation steps.

Please let me know if there are any further problems.

Best regards,
Aaron.

PS: Please note that L3DT Standard Edition has a map size limit of 2049x2049 pixels, so you may not be able to load the higher resolution MOLA files that are larger than this size. L3DT Professional handles the highest resolution MOLA data without any worries.

I was looking forward to trying this importer, but I have received an error attempting to load the plugin.

The error message is:

CExtDLL::LoadDLL error:
- cannot find function 'zeoGetApiVersion' in plugin 'C:\Program Files\Bundysoft\L3DT Professional 11.08\Extensions\L3DTio_MOLA.zeo'

Any chance this plugin could be updated to include this call?

Hi David,

I apologise for that oversight. The updated plugin is available here:
