Further site re-design

Postby Aaron » Sat May 13, 2006 6:21 am

Hello,

I've made a few more modifications to the site layout to improve functionality and maintainability. The most obvious change for visitors should be the new portal page, which splashes up content from the forums (including this announcement).

The other big change is that all the official documentation for L3DT has been moved into another wiki at:

http://www.bundysoft.com/docs/

...which is also reachable via the green 'information' button in the side-menu.

Cheers,
Aaron.

Well Aaron, it looks nice. Putting all the documents into the wiki was a good idea.

Nice work. What's the difference with the new Wiki - sexier? :D

It's much easier to add and modify content. The old PHP/HTML pages had got to a point where it became very hard to modify/move pages, manage media links, etc. This wiki sorts out all of that stuff for me. You also get an automatic index and proper search function, so my motivations weren’t entirely selfish.

As for differences with 'the old wiki' (i.e. the users' wiki); this system is almost identical. The reason I kept the two systems separate is so that there is a partition between 'official' content and user-submitted content.

On the subject of wikis, I've installed yet another one, this time to manage the news weblog and archives. The reasoning is much the same as with the documentation wiki; easier maintenance and easier indexing/search.

Cheers,
Aaron.
