Best way to create a realistic mountain chain?

Hello,

As the subject states, I'm working on finding a way to produce a believable looking mountain range on my map, with believable erosion, pointy peaks where desired, etc..

Is there a combination of raising terrain height, 'mountain' special land types, erosion, and/or other filters/features that achieves this?

I've not been able to get a satisfactory result and am not sure what the correct approach would be.

Has anyone found an effective workflow for this?

I'm thinking maybe it'd be effective to setup the appropriate overall land-form, export the heightmap, bring it into something like Wilbur to generate the erosion and then re-import it into L3DT. But perhaps there's a process that would get the same results without the extra steps/software necessary.

Thanks!

I use mountain presets and set them in a chain the used heavy erosion on top of them. Be careful on spacing or you end up with a massive mountain. Use trial and error on a test map.
