Flat Maps

Postby Trips » Tue May 03, 2011 3:12 am

I'm trying to get a fairly flat generated map, but find even if I set the Altitude Range to "flat", I get variations from -1200 to almost 7000m on a 16384x16384 map.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to limit the altitude range to say around 1000m maximum variance?

The three sliders average altitude, altitude range and scale of features all have effect on the over all size of the map. Also the horizontal resolution can affect the final size if it is really large or really small.

Hi Trips,

What horizontal scale are you using? The output height range does vary with your selected horizontal scale, so if you are using a very large horizontal scale (kilometres per pixel), you can still get a large height range even with the altitude range set to low. I'm happy to tweak this algorithm if you think it's wrong (I'm starting to think it is too). Otherwise, I'm also happy to provide calculations to allow you to re-scale the design map altitude range.

Cheers,
Aaron.
