A question about l3dt

I was scanning over this quickly. Did I read correctly that this product can be used to "tile" large maps.

I'm looking for a way to stream in parts of a larger map for a game, similar to how Oblivion does it. The land is seamless but sections load on demand.

Is this relatively easy to do with L3DT? I also have 3dsmax 7.

Cheers

Yep, L3DT makes mosaic maps up to 16 giga pixels. That is a HUGE map depending on scale of course but at default of 10 meters a pixel it is 307 thousand meters square or 94,249,000,000 square meters.

L3DT will create the map but your engine will need to do the streaming obviously. If you want a good cheap engine that streams massive terrains then look at TSE over at the Garage Games web site. They are working with Aaron to get an import plugin for L3DT terrains together. At the moment it's a manual import.
