Atrributes map generated according to existing example

Currently we have terrain diffuse map generated by l3dt+lots of photoshop modifications. Usually borders between areas (snow vs sand vs forest) were manually shifted little bit to more respekt terrain shape.

Now I need to put these modifications back to l3dt, to generate proper alfa maps (doing it manually in game editor is possible but lots of work). Would be possible to somehow generate attributes map in 3rd party editor like photoshop (I would use diffuse map as template and generate atrributes map from it)? Or is there any other way? Thanks!

Hi Demostenes,

Your timing is impeccable. I am currently working on a feature to generate attributes maps from satellite images (see this thread), which may be useful, at least in part, for your request. However, I should mention that recovering an attributes map from a texture is not guaranteed to be a terribly precise operation; some subtleties may be missed, and human intervention/editing will probably be required.

Thanks, thats great news! My idea of workflow is following: I will take existing attributes map and somehow blend with diffuse texture (equivalent of your satellite image, in photoshop piece of cake) to identify differences and manually fix these places. Or prepare attributes map from diffuse texture and do some manual editing to fix problems...Technically I only need to get those two maps in two layers in photoshop. So if it is possible to export/import attributes map as editable picture, my problem is solved. When do you think this plugin would be ready? Thanks a lot!
