Aaron, I loved your PnP Terrain Creator suggestion, the combo with L3dt is perfect!

I am trying to setup my own terrain using the Irrlicht Graphics engine and I am trying to think of ways to get some trees in.

Do any of you have any suggestions for freeware programs or plugins for blender that will allow me to make low-poly tree models. I dont want a program that models each individual leaf (its too high poly), just a general tree modeler thingie :)

Help is always appreciated!

Hi Krama,

Sorry, I can't recommend any tree-programs, but I can probably recommend a few places to look:

The virtual terrain project has a list of tree/plant software at
http://www.vterrain.org/Plants/plantsw.html

http://www.3dlinks.com is also a pretty good resource (a search for 'trees' shows up 82 programs).

In both cases, a lot of the software listed seems to be commercial (and quite expensive), but I'd be surprised if there aren't some freeware programs in there somewhere.

If you're just after models, you could also have a look at the tree models in the 'free-stuff' section of http://www.3dcafe.com. They've got a lot of meshes in both 3ds and directx formats.

Cheers,
Aaron.
