Plugin to create equal terrain edges?

Postby ShadowIce » Tue Feb 02, 2016 4:36 am

Hi Aaron. Long time, no speak! As I see you're getting to release 16.0, I would like to ask you one small favor that will help me & millions of your customers.

Can you please add a small plugin to make the edges of each generated terrain smooth out til' it's totally flat at the very edge?

You know how the terrain on the edges once generated comes out all wavy and weird looking? I & I'm sure a whole slew of other customers of yours could use that.

It would make it so that HUGE TERRAINS are possible. (Putting together 1 Terrain with the other) & WITHOUT all the hassle of using the "smoothing" tool, as it doesn't work for the above anyway.

Thank You, Aaron & have a lovely evening!

Sincerely,

ShadowIce*~

Hi ShadowIce,

Sorry for the delay. I've put your request on the 'to do' list, but it won't be done before the next release (no new features before release; just fixing things.) Thanks for the request.

Best regards,
Aaron.

Hi Aaron. Can it at LEAST be a patch to the next version so that I don't have to wait 3 months before I'm able to use it? That would be GREAT if you could do that! :)

Anyways, keep up the GREAT work, Aaron! :)

Hi ShadowIce,

It would be a plugin. You don't have to wait for anything to download and install plugins.

Cheerio,
Aaron.

Hi, Aaron. I see that you have released version 16.0. Might I ask how long I'm going to have to wait before seeing a small patch for making huge terrains with equal edges in order to create a mega terrain?

Thank you very much! :)

Hi ShadowIce,

I have not yet released the version 16, but there is a developmental build available for testing. One it is finished and debugged, I will consider other feature requests. Bug-fixes take priority.

As for time-frame, "I don't know" is the honest answer. There have been some very complex and subtle bugs that needed fixing in this version, which has taken several months longer than I expected. Whilst I think I've now fixed them, I won't know for weeks at the earliest, since I have to wait for testing and confirmation from users.

...small patch for making huge terrains with equal edges in order to create a mega terrain... [emphasis added]

Did you want the plugin to make equal edges, or flat edges? I have a plugin already that does equal edges (atEdgeBlender).

Best regards,
Aaron.

I would say "Flat" edges. With the rest of the landscape in the middle.

Sure. I'll look into it once I've finished release 16.0X.

When is 16.0x going to be released? Or at least a window of opportunity would be lovely!

Thanks brother! :)

Somewhere between two weeks and much more than that, depending on how many people test the new build and whether any bugs are found.

If it will get my plugin done in 2 weeks or less, I'll beta test it to no end if you let me! :)

LEAST I can do! :)

Thanks, Aaron!

Hi ShadowIce,

If you're asking for the new build, it's on the pro downloads page, as usual. Please consult your registration / sales receipt e-mail for the link.

If it will get my plugin done in 2 weeks or less, I'll beta test it to no end if you let me!

I don't believe I mentioned anything about getting your plugin done in two weeks. I said I'd look into your request after L3DT v16.0X is released, which is at least two weeks away, and maybe more. However, that doesn't mean when 16.0X is released, I'll drop everything else and start working on your request. Yours is one of many feature requests from any users, which will all be considered on their merits.

Regards,
Aaron.
