Postby J.F.Leusch69 » Mon Jul 07, 2008 8:49 pm

hi all,
im new to making maps with that editor. i wanna use this programm for battlefield2 maps and i wanna make a realistic (just basic terrian, not painted or something like that) map. i thought that i kann use some pics from google maps, i mean that maps which you can see the difference in height. (i hope you get what i mean :D)

so is that possible to use something like that:

http://maps.google.de/maps/mm?hl=de&ie=UTF8&ll=43.884223,16.99791&spn=0.015094,0.030513&t=p&z=15

Hi J.F.Leusch69,

There is no direct support for Google maps or Google Earth in L3DT. If you'd like to use their data, I suggest you find a way to extract the height data as some sort of heightfield file (even a 16-bit PNG/RAW image would do), and extract the texture data as an image file. These can be directly imported into L3DT.

Best regards,
Aaron.

Use SRTM data or LIDAR if you can get a hold of it. What I do to get real world data into L3DT is download a SRTM patch (usually the geotiff) of land from http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/ and then using http://www.vterrain.org/Doc/VTBuilder/overview.html I import the tif and export it as a .bt. Open up L3DT, load a heightfield from file and select your .bt. That simple. Note also that to save as a .bt in VTBuilder you have to save the layer as that.
