Okay, so whenever I load up L3DT I get these errors
ExtFunc_script_Execute error:
- ZeoScript.RunScript function cannot be retrieved

CL3DTView::AttribBrush_IsShownAM error:
- script failed

I went and deleted the program, re-downloaded, re-installed, and still nothing. I'd very much like some help with this, because it's driving me crazy. Note that I run the program from a portable harddrive, but I tried installing it on the regular HDD and it still did the same thing. I made no changes that I know of between when it was working and when it was not.

Hi Sarsileth,

It looks like either your 'ZeoScript' plugin is disabled, out of date, or isn't installed. Can you please send me the logfile? (to aaron@bundysoft.com) The easiest way to find the 'log.txt' file it is to use the 'L3DT log file' link in the start menu*.

By the way, modern L3DT installations aren't portable across multiple computers because settings and resources are stored in the user's %HOMEPATH% and %APPDATA% folders, which don't travel with your portable drive. These files were previously stored in the installation directory (e.g. %PRORAMFILES%) and thus were portable. However, since non-admin programs can't write to %PROGRAMFILES% in Vista, they had to be moved elsewhere. In short, I traded portability for support for Vista/Windows 7/etc.

* If you're using the latest dev build, this will open the containing folder. If you're using an older release, this will open the text file itself in notepad or whatever your default text editor is.

Damn.
So if I were to use an earlier version, it would have more portability? I have XP so the compatibility isn't an issue. Question is, what would I be losing if I downgraded?

Hi Sarsileth,

The problem is that all your plugins bar one have been disabled. I'm not quite sure how this came to pass, but I'll look into it. Anyway, the solution is to go into the extension manager ('Extensions->Extension manager' in menu) and press the 'enable all' button.

As for downgrading, you would have to go back to v2.4 from October 2006 to find a version that stored its settings in its installation directory. A quick rundown of the features you'd lose in downgrading to that version is given below*:
  • Sapphire 3D renderer.
  • Copy/paste.
  • Mipmapped display (makes 2D view faster).
  • TGEA Atlas support.
  • Wizard presets in Standard Edition.
  • Improvements to the erosion algorithm.
  • Multi-core/multi-threading in L3DT Pro.
  • Georeferencing support.
  • HFZ (compressed heightfield) file support.
  • Countless bugfixes.
  • Custom map layers.
  • Brush tools for heightfield, texture map, attributes map, etc.
  • Anti-aliased texture generation in L3DT Pro.
  • The 'blank heightfield' terrain algorithm.
  • Spring SMF/SMD/SMT support in L3DT Pro.
  • Undo, backup and restore options.
  • Most climates.
  • Most plugins.
  • New climate + material system.
  • Update manager.
  • Linux/OS X compatibility (via WINE)
  • All scripting options.
  • Tabbed map view.
  • Mesh decimator.
  • etc...


Note also that no versions of the Professional Edition are portable; they all store some settings in the system registry.

Thanks for the help so far. L3DT's rendering/editing programs are really useful in my digital art, so I shall endeavor to try and get it working again.
