Possible Terraces and horizontal scale bug

I was trying to create a high detail terrain map with alot of terraces with a horizontal scale of 0.1 meters and it appears that cliffs and terraces are not being calculated correctly or at all.

L3DT says it is creating cliffs and terraces but none are created.

The settings I used were

Width and Height = 8092
Horizontal scale = 0.1
I loaded the desert mases preset and moved the cliff/terraces slider all the way to many.
Then started the height map calculation process.
These settings work fine when the horizontal scale is set to 1.

I tried it with and without mosaic maps for the height map.
I even edited the design map to have the whole area set to max for terraces as well as just a specific part with no luck.

What I get is a terrain with many tall narrow peaks but not a single flat topped one.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the bug report. The terracing algorithm has a threshold setting that rejects terraces if their vertical range is too small (<20m, I believe). In the case of very small horizontal scales, it is unlikely there will be sufficient steepness within a terrace radius to cross this threshold; thus no terraces are applied.

I have now changed the terrace algorithm to set the threshold based on a multiple of the horizontal scale. It seems to work correctly now, as shown in this screenshot of a 0.1m/pixel heightmap with 100% terracing setting:

I'll post back here when the fix is available for download.

Best regards,
Aaron.

Hi Bill,

I apologise for the delay in making the update available. The updated installer is now up on the Bundysoft server. I'll PM you the download instructions.

Best regards,
Aaron.

The sale is still on, in the sense that the discount for assisting in fixing bugs still applies. With the current weather it seemed silly to continue a Summer sale. In fact I might make it a permanent "feature" of both Morgana and upcoming 112dB plugins.

Thanks for your very detailed problem reports, I'm on it. Will let you know when I either fix any of those or need more information/something for you to test.

Take care,

Wow, that's a spam method I hadn't seen before. Now they copy posts from other software forums (see original here). Quite clever really.
