Bearings With heightmaps

I wish there was something in the program to aid me in finding my bearings while editing heightmaps, switching from one to the other tends to make me loose where I am and it's hard to find where I'm editing.

Hello..
I'm wondering if this feature was ever implemented? I've been having a difficult time keeping track of where I am on the map at times, too, while in the 3D/Sapphire mode.
