I export the heightfield mosaic in .png format and sometimes raw. You can also export a mosaic HF in .ter, .bmp, and .jpg....I'm using the beta however and don't really have a great deal of time with 2.4.

Hi fafhrd,

We're kind of there already. You can export in tiled BMP/JPG/PNG, and have been able to for some time. You can also natively load/saved tiled TER maps (still 'proprietary', but fairly widely supported). TER has the advantage that, being a proper terrain format, it doesn't corrupt the vertical scaling as an image file does.

You can also load tiled maps into L3DT. At the moment, you need to have a 'mosiac master file' to describe the tiled map, which is a little text file that's specific to L3DT and a few other programs. We're currently trying to establish with other developers a standard for tiled map files, and once that's ready the MMF will be deprecated.

Cheers,
Aaron.

Wow, I feel dumb. Every time I chose the 'tiled' checkbox, I would lose the pulldown menu options of other types, showing only mmf. I never went past that, as I thought there was no way I could load mmf into FreeWorld3D (my prefered HM editor). Heh, so after the replies, I continued on, and Hey! next screen gives you the type options back.
This is good, as I really want to hand edit the larger maps, but nothing (afaik) else is able to handle such huge maps at one time. It's not a tough job to edit each tile one at a time though. Very nice.

Hi fafhrd,

Don't feel bad, this is not the first time this has happened, which indicates that the UI design is not very intuitive. It's on my to-do list for v2.5a/b to revise that dialog to make it more in line with user expectations.

Cheers,
Aaron.
