I'd love a ramp in/out for the gradient (under land-types) attribute so I can easily transition from hills to steep with ever-increasing granite.

I don't think you don't need ramps on the gradient coefficient to achieve this. Instead, you just have a series of land types with increasing gradient parameters and decreasing base score values. This is how the default climates transition from grass to steep grass, to cliffs, to steep cliffs.
