What are you up to?

Isla Duala for Arma 2

Postby icebreakr » Tue Feb 09, 2010 7:33 am

Hi guys. I would just like to get you familiar with my project Isla Duala for military game simulator: Arma 2. Island is made almost entirely by L3DT Pro from scratch (as a test of this app).

Hope you like it and it will encourage rookies to try out this tool. Too bad my project is freeware (hobby) and I've used up my Trial period (as of tommorow).

Hi Icebreakr,

Congratulations on your excellent work. The videos were particularly beautiful. Can I ask what map size you used for Isla Duala? In the flyover video, it looked rather large.

Also, in your experience with making this map, would you recommend any changes to L3DT to make the map-building process easier?

Best regards,
Aaron.

aaron: thank you for everything, your app, a chance to test it and work on my freeware projects. Hopefully you got my email reply, too.

Its a 10x10km map, 1024 heightmap (10meter distance).

What I would love to see:
- further optimization of Sapphire, I have problem painting textures on maps bigger than 10240x10240, even tiled - error just pops up
- more user friendly climate editor, for example I dunno how to set up new hi-res textures so they don't appear so big in the auto-texture map create function. So I've resized the textures as a temporary solution

Otherwise, L3DT is a great tool and I recommend it to proffesional level designers and also beginner hobby island makers :)

Hi icebreakr,

Thanks for the suggestions; I've added the to the dev plan. With regards to the Sapphire error, can you post here the error you found? I've edited 16k x 16k textures in Sapphire without errors*. Were you using one large texture image, or was it a mosaic texture?

Best regards,
Aaron.

* Although the texture did darken during the update period, before refreshing normally, for a reason not yet fully understood.
