Error message on startup

Postby Safe-Keeper » Wed Apr 28, 2010 1:47 pm

Okay, so I've been using L3DT personal for some time, but out of nowhere it has started acting up, apparently suddenly unable to save logs or whatever to the drive or registry.

Every time it launches, it gives me the "it appears to be the first time you have run L3DT" dialogue box and this error window:

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadPathsIni error:
- could not load paths.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadLocalIni error:
- could not load local.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadWindowsIni error:
- could not load windows.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadStringsIni error:
- could not load strings.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadMruIni error:
- could not load MRU.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadPresetsIni error:
- could not load presets.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadOverlaysIni error:
- could not load overlays.ini.xml

This is after a complete reinstall (deleting the folder and then reinstalling). Before the reinstall, the error window was stuck in a loop of errors about some plugin named tio_backup something, which I proceeded to delete. I see it was reinstalled with this new release, but for some reason it doesn't produce errors anymore.

It also gives me the error window sometimes when I go from tab to tab. The last one read:

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadPathsIni error:
- could not load paths.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadLocalIni error:
- could not load local.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadWindowsIni error:
- could not load windows.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadStringsIni error:
- could not load strings.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadMruIni error:
- could not load MRU.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadPresetsIni error:
- could not load presets.ini.xml

L3DTxml_ReadDecl warning:
- XML declaration not found

L3DTxml_ReadFile error:
- call to L3DTxml_ReadDecl failed

CL3DTApp::LoadOverlaysIni error:
- could not load overlays.ini.xml

L3DTxml_WriteFile error:
- cannot open file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Eier\Application Data\Bundysoft\L3DT\Std 2.8.0.0\Settings\MRU.ini.xml' for writing

CL3DTView::PaintBufferToScr error:
- cannot create compatible mem DC

The program also refuses to remember which projects I have recently opened (none are listed in the Open Project window, though it remembers the last folder used when I choose the browse option). No matter how many times I start it, it gives no indication of having ever been used before.

Hi Safe-Keeper,

I apologise for the inconvenience caused by this bug. Can you please send me the log file so that I may check the path settings? To find the log file, go to the Windows Start menu and click on the following item:

All programs->Bundysoft->L3DT [version]->L3DT logs

This will open a directory containing a file named 'log.txt'. Please send this file to aaron@bundysoft.com.

This is after a complete reinstall (deleting the folder and then reinstalling)

That's not a complete re-install, because settings and data are not stored under the program files folder (it's not allowed in Vista/Win7). Due to the Vista/Win7 policy, L3DT stores user's settings and most data under your profile folder, in various locations. Only the executable code (exe and DLLs) and some default settings are stored under the program files folder. To completely uninstall, use the uninstaller.

Cheers,
Aaron.
