importing terrain mesh

Got a problem or need advice?

importing terrain mesh

Postby creat326 » Wed Sep 22, 2010 10:53 pm

Hi

I have a mesh created in another tool that I like already, it's a 4kmx4km optimized fbx file (i can save it as 3ds, obj, etc...)

I would like to use in in L3DT, meaning, loading the mesh and generate the texture using L3DT.

Is there a way to import this terrain so that I can generate the cooler textures that L3DT does?

if not, any ideas how to do it? possible to generate a heightmap or something from the mesh? this will be bad probably since my mesh is already optimized for speed on triangle counts.

Hi Creat326,

I apologise for my slow reply. The issue of mesh imports has been raised a couple of times (most recently here), and the answer is generally that L3DT does not and is unlikely to soon support terrain mesh imports.

To import an existing mesh, you will need to first rasterise the mesh to generate a heightfield, using Blender for instance.

Best regards,
Aaron.
