Partial export of height maps to OBJ/MTL files

It doesn't hurt to ask...

Partial export of height maps to OBJ/MTL files

Postby Q-dad » Wed Oct 27, 2010 7:12 pm

Hi,

I might have missed out on how everything works, but if not, this can be regarded either as a feature request, or a need for advise...:

I've got a height map from Delta Force 2, and I would like to use L3DT to export a specific part of it to OBJ/MTL files, i.e. a rectangular 3d item, given by two points (x1,y1 and x2,y2) in the horizontal plane.

I'm aware of the plug-in based export option "Exporting OBJ and MTL files", announced here...: http://www.bundysoft.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1183

I'm also aware of the "Exporting a selected area of a map", documented here...: http://www.bundysoft.com/docs/doku.php?id=l3dt:userguide:io:export:area

It seems to me that what I really am looking for is some sort of combination of those two features... Is that correct...?

I believe that L3DT does not have such a combination of features implemented. If that's true, this is a feature request from me. 8)

Or might there be another way for me to achieve my the partial export of a height map to OBJ/MTL files...?

Hi Q-dad,

Thanks for the excellent request. I don't think L3DT has a way of exporting selected areas as OBJ and MTL, so I'll pop it on the to-do list. I am however in the midst of sorting out a 64-bit build for L3DT release 3.0, so it might be a couple of weeks until I get around to changing the OBJ plugin. I hope this is OK.

Cheers,
Aaron.

Np, I've got lots of other things to keep me busy in the mean time...

Of course, if L3DT supports non-quadratic height maps (I can't remember right now), I could try to isolate the specific part of the Delta Force 2 height map before importing it to L3DT, and then export the whole of it again as OBJ/MTL files...

Hi Demi,

Exporting selected areas of the map as OBJ/MTL files is now supported (see announcement, user guide). Sorry for the wait.

Cheers,
Aaron.
