The OpenTopograpy Facility at the University of California San Diego provides GeoTIFF raster downloads of high-resolution LIDAR and radar datasets.

The Unitied States Geological Survey provides seamless downloads of any area of the globe from the 1 arc-second SRTM data set (~30m), as well as other datasets of higher precision but lesser coverage.

Ashundar.com hosts a lot of excellent artificial and real-world terrain files in a range of sizes (257×257 to 8193×8193), including a 3m DEM of Mt. St. Helens!

The elevation file repository of the Virtual Terrain Project includes some nice terrain and imagery files (Hawai'i, Crater Lake in Oregon, Baia Mare in Romania, etc).

Blend Swap is a great resource for sharing CC-licensed models and materials.

CgTextures.com is an extensive, free gallery of textures.

The Atomizer provides free resourses, sky-boxes, textures, models and more.

3D Cafe have lots of models, textures and other stuff, including a big 'free stuff' section.
