The process of generating a new design map based project is discussed on the new map project page (using designable map option).
To re-generate a design map using the same design parameters (size, roughness, etc), select the 'Operations→Design map→Generate map' option from the menu. This option is disabled for fractal, perlin and imported heightmaps, as there is no design map in those cases.
