Thanks for the request. I'm not very familiar with perl, so I'm not able to write this plugin myself at this time. However, I've listed it on the plugin ideas page, and hopefully a helpful plugin developer will take this up.

There already is a Python plugin.

Writing a Perl plugin wouldn't be as easy as the Python one due to the nature of this language, but maybe it could serve as a starting point to see how things can be done.
