Alpha map smoothing

Postby Aaron » Mon Dec 21, 2009 2:31 pm

Hi Everyone,

In the latest developmental build of L3DT Pro* I have added anti-aliased smoothing to the alpha map generator. The controls are much the same as with the texture map generator, which has had anti-aliasing for some time now.

The effect of alpha map anti-aliasing is shown in the image below. In the left half, anti-aliasing was disabled, and the alpha maps appear pixellated. In the right half of the image, 8x anti-aliasing was used, and the transitions from one land type to another appear smooth.

As should be expected, large anti-aliasing radii will result in longer calculation times. Consequently, this calculation is now on the list to be multithreaded.

Please let me know if you find any problems.

Cheerio,
Aaron.

Oh this looks really good. Check out the new look. It really blends well and gives a realistic look or am I just imagining it? :)
