Hi Nikolai,

This is an error in L3DTVi2, yes? When does it occur? Also, what are your system specs (CPU, RAM, GPU, O/S)? Lastly, are you by any chance trying to compile L3DTVi2 yourself? The more information you can provide, the easier it will be to fix the error.

Cheers,
Aaron.

Ok... so here are some specs...

I Have and intel pentium 3 processor

797 MHz, 128MB of RAM

The errors occure when i am trying to open up my map under the ".mgf" maps i have created? Am i doing something wrong, or is my computer just not good enough to handle this system?

What do you mean by compile L3DTVi2 myself?

Thank you for responding Aaron!

Hi Nikolai,

Thankyou for the information, but I have one more question: Do you have a 3D-graphics accelerator card? L3DTV2 won't run without one.

What do you mean by compile L3DTVi2 myself?

Oh, never-mind. The path-name in that error message seemed a little odd, so I just wanted to check whether you were building L3DTVi2 from the provided source-code. Apparently not.

Best regards,
Aaron.

Hello aaron,

I dont know if i have a 3-D Accelerator Card, i know for sure i can play
3-D games, such as warcraft, Mechwarrior 3, and some other games i have borrowed from friends...

I dont know if that makes any difference, but i was wondering how to check if i do, indeed, have a 3-D Accelerator Card...

Thank you for all your support,
Nikolai :D

Hi Nikolai,

Without opening the case, the easiest way to find out whether you have a 3D card (and if so, what type) is to:
  1. Right-click on the desktop and select 'properties'.
  2. Select the 'settings' tab.
  3. Click on the 'advanced' button.
  4. Click on the 'adapter' tab.
  5. Read what it says under 'adapter type'.

On my old box at home, it says 'NVIDIA GeForce FX5700'.

If you can tell me what adapter type you have, we can work out what to do next (driver updates, perhaps).

Cheers,
Aaron.

Hi Nikolai,

I did a quick google of "NVIDIA RIVA Modlel64/Model 64 Pro" and discovered that this card is a 32Mb card from around 1999 (see AnandTech report). L3DTVi2 requires a 128Mb card, so I don't think this is going to work for you. Sorry.

Aaron.

The viewer isn't part of the generator, so you don't have to use it. Import your files into some other program that supports your card. The generator itself is superb and you will find it hard to get better for the price.

As you seem not to know very much about computers, as a general rule if you want to use modern software and/or develop for modern machines, you will have to make sure you have up to date hardware.

This is not a flame, but L3DT is not lame, your machine is ;-)

Got L3DTvi2 Assertion failure (c:\Program Files\Borland\Delphi7\Projects\GLScene\Source\Base\XOpenGL.pas, line 572)

Using AMD X2 3800+, 2Gb, GeForce 8800GTS, Win XP pro SP2 with latest nVidia drivers. Wonder if there some OpenGL bug in drivers. L3DTvi2 from L3DT Pro 2.4.2.15.

Hay guys,

I agree with trollfiddler, need better hardware. Here is a good example for the new person going the other way. I have bleeding edge trouble just like you do for old stuff, example: I have a 64 bit computer and the Viewer does not work on 64 bit at all and crashes like a champ.
So I have gotten into using Terragen for looking at the terrains.
It is one hell of a combo and gets great results.

As for The L3DT program you will find none better in the world, I don't think. Aaron's L3DT is the best in the world at the moment, most of us here believe. So buck up butter cup and get a better viewer, hahaha Go to planet side and download their free version of Terragen my brother. I think you will be a happy camper after a bit /smiles.....The link to TG is:

Terragen renders looks looks stunning. I wonder, if there is some nice L3DT to Terragen work flow? Gotta try it with those larger terrains I have problems.
