L3DT Viewer problems

Postby Madcowthomas » Tue May 01, 2007 3:53 am

When go to view a 4096 x 4096 map in the viewer it stops responding. Tried many maps and not had any luck viewing the maps.

Map Group Tree View in the L3DT Viewer, where can you access the information that is outputted in this viewer if your not able to use the viewer?

Hi Madcowthomas,

I presume you're after the vertical scale value that's shown in the 3D renderer. To get this value from L3DT, go to 'operations->heightfield->change vert. scale' menu option. In that dialog there will be an 'alt range' field. Note down that number.

Then, open calc.exe (or equiv.) and calculate the following:

65536 / AltRange

The answer is the scale number you seek (you're exporting the heightfield as a 16-bit RAW or PNG, yes?)

As for the lock-up of L3DTVi2 - what are your system specs? (RAM particularly). Also, what file format did you use to save the heightfield?

Cheers,
Aaron.

Intel Duo Core 3.00GHZ
1.99 GB of ram
7600 Geforce video card

For saving the file using this so that have backup in case windows has a fit.
"Saving project as"

Tried again last night and for a 4096 x 4096 took little over 5min to open. But seem to get the "not responding" a lot more now days.

Hi Madcowthomas,

Ah, OK. The "Program nor responding" thing is not actually a problem. You get this state when programs are busy and don't process system messages for 3 (or 4?) seconds. It doesn't mean they have crashed. When L3DTVi2 is finished loading the file, it will start processing messages again and the "program nor responding" message will go away.

Cheers,
Aaron.
