How do you make one large volcano with small mountains?

Postby Martinloki » Tue Dec 18, 2007 6:26 pm

I was horsing around last night and found that I have no idea how to create a single large feature in the design map. I've looked around, but didn't find anything. I would like to create a 1km wide map with a single, 500m tall volcano that has a footprint of around 700m^2. I would like to do this on a DM of at least 32x32. I tried using a larger brush, but, obviously that just created a bunch of volcanos, each the correct height but with tiny footprints.

Is this possible?
Am I missing a setting to allow the volcano to bleed out and overun the surrounding cells?

Thank you for any and all suggestions. :)

First - make small map with Volcano, next - resize HF on vert. or horis. dimensions as You wish. If You want make climate after this - delete DM, and generate new from HF. But DO NOT CALCULATE HF from DM again, only, if your DM is actually hi-dimension You can do it, or You break nice-view Volcano =) .

I wasn't aware that I could reverse calc a DM from a HM. Thank you. I will try that.

Hi Martinloki,

At the moment the radii of the volcanoes are hard-coded presets. I've added to my to-do list an option that would allow you to make volcanoes of any user-specified radius/height/etc. I'll post back here when it's available.

Cheerio,
Aaron.

Hi Martinloki,

I've written a tutorial on how to create custom volcanoes in the wiki:

http://www.bundysoft.com/wiki/doku.php?id=tutorials:l3dt:volcano -- (clicky for PDF version)

Please note that to follow this tutorial, you will need at least L3DT v2.5b build 25, which was uploaded moments ago.

Please let me know if there are any problems.

Cheerio,
Aaron.

Amazingly fast response. And over the Holidays too. Thank you.

I tried it out as much as I could and it seems to be working perfectly. Thank you.
