Starting afresh

To create a new climate, I'll first open the climate manager window ('Utilities→Climate Manager…'):

In this dialog, I will double-click on the '<< new climate >>' list option to create my climate. This will open the climate editor:

As you can see, I've given my climate a name (the 'climate name' field), set the file name (using the '…' browse button), and added my name to the author name field.

Using the 'display colour' button, I'm going to select a light aqua colour, which I think is appropriate for this climate. This display colour is merely the colour used to represent this climate in the design map display (see official tutorial), and has no further influence on anything whatsoever. Aesthetics.

Because I intend for this climate to be used by other people, I'm going to click onthe 'Author's notes' button and write a short description of the climate:

The other big button on the climate editor window - namely 'global params' - won't be touched, as it's not required in this tutorial. If you're curious, please refer to the climate algorithms page for more info.

Alrighty, now for the fun part - adding land types. I'm going to do this in two stages, fistly by adding 'root land types', and then following up with some 'mixed land types' that are combinations of the root land types.
